Insider Update Week 23

This week was an exciting week at Fortelling HQ. We launched the new Fortelling 4.4 update. Really proud of the big step forward in the look and feel. The app also feels much more responsive to clicks now, speeding up navigation and workflows.

New in 4.4

Besides the nicer design for the web version, this update also introduces a free tier on the web. Before, if you opened the web version, you’d be immediately greeted by an upgrade banner. Starting with this update, we’ve added a free tier so you can see if Fortelling Web is a good match for your workflow. For example, you can create and edit your first 10 characters for free.  If you like it, please consider upgrading to Fortelling Pro.

Family tree

The next big update after this one will be Fortelling 5.0. This will introduce a new tool: the family tree tool. Although we might rename it to something more general, as it is slowly becoming much more advanced than anticipated. It can also be easily used to structure hierarchical organizations, groups, and perhaps even things I have not yet even considered.

When developing big new features like these, I like to involve the community. This way, the tools in Fortelling fit in as many creatives’ workflows as possible. If you’re working with large family trees or big organizations, please book a call with me using the following link (you can leave your camera off if you're shy ;). If you do, you will be one of the first to try the new tool yourself. [LINK EXPIRED]

Call for artists

We have a completely new, out-of-the-box project coming up. It is a little early to tell you about it in detail, but we need real human artists to help us out! (I can only draw rectangles, which helps me design software: if you know, you know) This is a paid job, and if you’re interested in creating a beautiful artistic piece about writing, please send us some of your best art, and we might be able to collaborate on this. support@fortelling.org

Tumblr

Many of you are probably unaware that Fortelling is also active on Tumblr. We post our weekly challenges on there as well. Follow this link to find our profile.

This also might be a good moment to plug our Discord channel. After a major facelift done by Will, the community has been more active over the past few weeks. Join us for laughs and giggles: https://discord.gg/amFXDFx

What’s up for next week?

Next week, my goal is to implement a central hub for managing your communication preferences. I will also start working on  email updates for your project (e.g. missed chats, new collab requests etc.). We will also start a new mailing list, so challenges will be delivered straight to your mailbox. Prefer not to be spammed by us (WHY NOT THOUGH?!?) in your inbox: you can also toggle off all communication. Of course I will also work silently and quietly on the family tree tool in the shadows.

Byeeee!
